Job Summary
An Engineering Technician at Spoint1 Engineering, LLC is responsible for designing and drafting structural building details of residential and commercial structures. This includes traditional design and drawing services, making site visits, and formulating outside the box approaches based on sound engineering judgement. Some mathematical skills are required for load calculations. Applicants must be proficient in AutoCAD and MS Office. Training in structural software and processes is provided. A college degree in engineering is a plus, but not required. Relevant experience in construction and building design is also considered. Employees will work under the guidance of a Professional Engineer.
Essential Functions
- The ability to interpret architectural or structural construction plans
- Drafting of structural plans and details using AutoCAD
- Utilize engineering software to analyze components; training is provided
- Output production paperwork and construction layouts
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of industry principles and building codes
- Calculate and apply area load conditions as specified or required by local codes or jurisdiction requirements
- Work with other members of the team in a cooperative, respectful, and kind manner
- Occasionally visit building sites in DC, Maryland and Virginia to observe structural conditions
- Participate in a positive company culture demonstrated by their prompt attendance, reliability, and positive interactions with their teammates and co-workers
- Demonstrates an active willingness and interest to learn and adapt to changes in technology, software and customer requests
- Performs other duties as needed or otherwise assigned by the engineering manager

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of a design job, employees will be in an office environment, which means sitting at a desk for extended periods of time. This is not a physically demanding job.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work a minimum of 8 hours a day Monday – Friday, generally available from 8am-5pm with pre-determined adjustments. Overtime is available. Schedule can be adjusted with approval from the Principal Engineer.
Required Education and Experience
This position requires the skills generally learned through achieving an engineering or technical degree; however, it is not required so long as the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities are demonstrated. Construction industry or architectural drafting experience is also considered.
